Therapeutic Riding & Lessons
Education, Therapy, and a Unique ExperienceTrotting Horse Therapeutic Riding is dedicated to providing equine facilitated therapy and accessible outdoor recreation to Montanans in need. We offer both mounted and unmounted equine activities, as well as beginner riding lessons based in practical horsemanship. Due to the age and size of our horses, we have a 220 lb weight limit for mounted activities.
Each lesson is one-on-one, with all focus on the client by the Lesson Leader and the client’s Volunteer Team (horse leaders, side walkers, etc). While multiple lessons may be taking place in the same arena, each individual is given undivided attention by their team. We do offer small group (2-3 people) lessons on occasion, depending on horse and staff availability.
Emphasis on all parts of horsemanship are included in each participant’s lesson; from grooming and saddling, to leading and riding, depending on the client’s abilities. Horse care is an important part of what we do!
Medicaid covers therapeutic riding in Montana if the client has the BIG SKY WAIVER under Community & Home Based Services. Clients are required to be enrolled in the BIG SKY WAIVER program, and have a caseworker with the ability to provide a Prior Authorization Referral for services.
Private Insurance unfortunately does not cover our services at this time.
